- The typical duration to reach the Amarnath Cave Temple from the Pahalgam route spans around 3 to 5 days, while the Baltal route takes around 1 to 2 days. The Baltal route is usually preferred for returning.
- To facilitate easier access, private operators now offer helicopter services on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Devotees are required to make prior reservations and complete the registration process to embark on the sacred Amarnath pilgrimage.
- Pony, palkis and pithoo are also available.
- Every pilgrim has to submit an application form along with a compulsory health certificate and required documents to obtain the permit.

- There are two routes from Katra to Ardhkuwari, the mid-point of the trek. The old route is 5.5 km and the new route is 7.5 km. Ardhkuwari to the temple also has two routes. One is 6.5 km, which is a steep uphill and the other route is 5.5 km, which is less steep.
- Mules, palki, pitthoo, ropeway and helicopter services are available.

This decision applies specifically to devotees who are engaged in the sparsh darshan, wherein they enter the inner sanctum of the temple. However, individuals dressed in Western attire will still be permitted to offer their worship to the deity in areas outside the sanctum.
