How to Reach Ocean Park Hong Kong?

The Ocean Park is on the Southern side of the island, located just after the Aberdeen tunnel. Depending on the traffic, it takes about 10-15 minutes to reach the park from Central.

You can also take the bus. The bus routes you can take is 629 from Star Ferry Pier; it will drop you off at Admiralty, a popular hotel district, the park located 8.3 KM from there. You can take a cab or hop on to the train.

You can also take the South Island MTR train that has a station right in front of the Ocean Park.

Ocean Park Hong Kong Tickets

You can but the entry tickets to the Park Online, in fact, its best to do that or else you may end up wanting in long queues. You travel agent or hotel can also arrange the same for you.

Admission Tickets are as follows:

• Adults: Approx. HKD 385 or INR 3200/- Per Person
• Children: Approx. HKD 193 or INR 1600/- Per child

Just in case you forget to book your tickets online or make a last-minute decision to visit the park, then you must get there early as people start to queue up before opening hours.

The park opens at 10:00 am or 11:00 am, the timings vary from day-to-day. So, you must get there at around 9:15 to ensure quick admission into the park. However, if you don’t get there in time you can expect a long queue for up to an hour, and during summers the wait can be quite unbearable. Especially, if you are travelling with young children.

Ocean Park Hong Kong has two parts, The Summit (Where you will find all the rides and ocean seal attraction) and The Waterfront (located at the entrance). As the name suggests, the summit is perched atop the mountain, and there is no direct walkway from the Waterfront. However, you have two exciting options to select from, The Ocean Express Train and The Ocean Park Cable Car.

• The Ocean Park Express Train: This is a recent and welcome addition to the Ocean Park. The ride up to the summit is few short minutes, but very enjoyable. The train has a submarine-like feel to it, complete with air-conditioning and television entertainment.
• The Ocean Park Cable Car: The cable car transports you to the Summit with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape of mountains and a gorgeous coastline. However, if you are afraid of heights, you can avoid this as it may get windy at times and the small cable cars may fly around a little.

In the morning its best to take the Express Train up to the Summit as it has smaller queues and they can fit a lot of people in there. However, while coming down, you can take the cable car as it has smaller queues. There is no reason or logic behind this, it’s just the way it is.

The Water Front

The waterfront at The Ocean Park is located quite near to the main park entrance. It has four main attractions, The Grand Aquarium, Asian Animal, Whisker’s Harbour and Old Hong Kong.

• The Grand Aquarium: This is one of the most impressive attractions at the Ocean Park. They have on display nearly 5000 fishes from nearly 400 distinct species. Another striking feature is the aquarium dome, largest of it’s kind in the world. Inside you must navigate your way around a wind of tunnels and numerous exhibits. If you visit the park during the evening, you can enjoy the light and sound show called Symbio that takes places at the giant lagoon located outside the aquarium.
• Asian Animals: At this attraction, you can find various Asian animals such as Pandas, Asian otters (the most popular attraction especially among children), monkeys, and alligators. The attraction is located between the Aquarium and Harbour.

• Whiskey’s harbour: This attraction has a large outdoor playground aimed at smaller kids. The attraction includes things like carnival games, bouncy houses, play structures, climbing walls and some larger but age-appropriate slides. Here, you can enjoy the great seas lion show, suitable for a younger audience.
• Old Hong Kong: This particular attraction is fashioned after the 1950’s Hong Kong. You could spend about 15-20 minutes here and enjoy a bite of the local food and ride around the carousel.

The Summit is located atop a mountain and can be accessed via the Ocean Park Cable Car and Ocean Park Express Train. The Summit has three main attraction, Thrilling Rides, Pacific Pier and Ocean Theatre. When you finished exploring all the attraction, you can pick a spot and enjoy the breath-taking landscape complete with magnificent mountains and a sprawling coastline.

• Thrilling Rides: The rides here are quite intense and a hit among teenage children. In fact, some may say they are even better than the ones at Disneyland. If you are travelling with younger children, its best to avoid this particular attraction and spend majority o your time at the Whiskey’s Harbour.
• Pacific Pier: This attraction is a shaded enclosure that houses around 20 sea lions and seals. This is a hit among children as the animals are quite active and incredibly cute and adorable. The show here has a different theme each time but, includes performances by dolphins, seal, sea lions and other sea creatures.
• Ocean Theatre: This attraction is where you can enjoy all the major shows showcasing the different marine life. Make sure you head there in time because you may miss out on great seats. Summer Times at Ocean Park Hong Kong

If you are planning to visit Hong Kong during summers especially at the end of August during school holiday in Hong Kong, then be prepared to expect huge hoards of crowds everywhere. In addition to local tourists, many tourists from Mainland China visit Hong Kong during this time.

Make sure you carry lots of sunscreens, an umbrella for each member of the family, shades, water bottles, battery operated fans, so you are prepared to brave the hot and long summer days. There is little to no shade inside the Ocean Park, except for some vegetation on the Summit and an indoor exhibit.

If you are travelling with young children, them beware of the rides and structures at Whiskey’s Harbour aren’t covered. The equipment can get very hot, so make sure your little munchkins wear full sleeve clothes and pants.

Don’t let them play for too long at a time; you can always come back for more. Keep themselves and yourself hydrated, don’t eat heavy or fried food inside. Instead of spending a whole day at the park, spend half a day and plan visits during the evenings.
