Travel and tourism in India, 67 years after Independence

“At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom” – this excerpt from the landmark speech of Pandit Nehru, captures the essence of our freedom from the British Empire at its best. Independence did not come to India served on a silver platter, rather it was the culmination of decades and centuries of struggle for freedom by many revolutionaries and sacrifice of countless others that freed India from British colonialism. 67 years after Independence many things have changed, travel and tourism in India is one of them.
Our country indeed had to travel a long journey and overcome many challenges to achieve its independence. Today as we are gearing up to celebrate the 67 years of independence, one should say the achievements our country made is remarkable. India is one of the fastest growing economies of the world. Apart from all other concerns of development, our policymakers gave special attention to make our country one of the most delightful places to visit. India is decked with beauty in every nooks and corner. The vast landscape of this country is bejeweled with the most diversified people, culture and terrains. It is a paradise for travelers, who love to explore the world in its different avatars. From snow capped mountains of the north to the picturesque locales in Deccan and from the exotic escapades in the east to the royal and majestic architecture in the west, India is one country that blankets every facet of wonder within its periphery.
Government of India took significant steps in the post-independence era to promote travel and tourism in India. They wanted to let the world discover what the vast expanse of India has to offer. All these contributed to the growing popularity of our country as one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world. Millions of travelers from around the world, cajoled by the beauty and tales of India, flows into this country to explore the magic of diversity unfold in front of their eyes. Some gears up for an adventurous trip to Himalayas, while others look forward to leisure laden beach side Goa Holidays. Whether it is a trip to Kerala that attracts them or the story of several mighty rivers that meanders through the plains, visiting India can truly be a traveler’s delight.
